This magazine cover was a collaborative effort with designer/illustrator Alix Ayoub during my time as the Lead Designer of (614) Magazine. Our team had selected some photographs as possible cover images, but the overall look and feel hadn’t been established. One day, I noticed Alix working on a photo illustration with the solid white, grey, and red elements that you see on the cover. As soon as I saw what she was working on, it sparked inspiration. I asked her if I could try adding to what she had started, and so I layered the black high contrast photographic elements over top of her illustration. From there, I added the textured grey background and the typography, and it all came together.
