I did this photographic illustration and layout during my time as the Lead Designer of the food and drink magazine Stock & Barrel in Columbus, OH. The article was a humor piece, and something of a love letter to ranch dressing. When I saw the photo for the article, I felt like it needed some stylization to emphasize its tongue in cheek nature. I thought the imagery would miss the mark if it were a normal photograph of two people romantically sipping ranch dressing from straws straight out of the bottle. I converted the photo to high contrast black and white, and then digitally added graphic colors underneath it. I thought this look worked for the piece because it made the photo less grounded in reality, and give a wink to the reader that the article leaned heavily into humor.
